The Junior Lady Jags, Guyana’s Under-17 Women’s National Team, faced a challenging start in their CONCACAF U17 Women’s Championship Qualifiers, falling 2-1 to Cuba on Monday.

The match took place at Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Yaiselis López of Cuba scored first in the 44th minute, taking advantage of a one-on-one with the Guyanese goalkeeper.

After halftime, Guyana returned with determination, and Alexaudria Chasles equalized with an impressive long-range volley in the 56th minute.

Yet, Cuba quickly regained the lead as Aneilis Calvo scored from a set-piece just eight minutes later.

The Junior Lady Jags are set to play against Panama in their upcoming match on Wednesday, January 29, at 20:00 local time at the same stadium.

Positioned in Group C with Panama, Cuba, and the Turks and Caicos Islands, Guyana needs to either win the group or be among the top two second-placed teams to advance to the next round of the tournament.
