Guyanese boxers Shakquain James and Abiola Jackman delivered standout performances at the Trinidad and Tobago National Boxing Championships, held at the Southern Regional Indoor Sports Arena. Their victories against top regional opponents reinforced Guyana’s rising prominence in the sport.
Competing in the elite welterweight division for the first time, James dominated his bout, forcing his opponent Nervin Boy to retire after the first round. His speed, precision, and composure left a lasting impression on spectators and officials. Meanwhile, Jackman, competing in the heavyweight division, battled to a well-earned 3-2 victory over Amanda George, further solidifying her status as one of the region’s top female fighters.
GBA President Steve Ninvalle praised their performances, highlighting the importance of international exposure for Guyana’s boxers. He also announced the return of the 2025 Pepsi/Michael Paris National Under-16 Championship, an initiative aimed at developing young talent. With a packed calendar ahead, the Guyana Boxing Association remains committed to making Guyana a leading force in Caribbean boxing.
