Ahead of the Youth Basketball Guyana(YBG) Five Challenge Series which will fill the walls of the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall over the weekend March 1-2 as Long-standing partners Edward B. Beharry has renewed its sponsorship for the 15th consecutive year. 

The Challenge series will see the participation of 53 teams covering the length and breadth of Guyana as student-athletes will engage in Five – a – side Tournament, Three point shootout, Free throw shoutout and Skills combined. 

Co-director of Youth Basketball Guyana Chris Bowman has highlighted on the significance of B.Beharry Limited towards basketball and the impact towards providing opportunities and growth of grassroots basketball.

Bowman said “This company has been a pillar for youth basketball in Guyana. Edward B.Beharry , not only the National Schools Basketball Festival, but for our year-round program would have invested tens of millions into the growth and sustainability of youth basketball. And this commitment has directly benefited tens of thousands of student athletes, transforming grassroots basketball and providing opportunities that extend far beyond the court.

In truth, it is difficult to imagine what basketball in Guyana would have been like the past 18 years had it not been for the unwavering support and partnership from the Edward B.Beharry  Limited.

Sustaining youth basketball requires more than just enthusiasm. It takes reliable community partners willing to invest in the next generation. Edward B.Beharry  Limited has been exactly that, a steadfast ally making an immense and immeasurable difference in the lives of young athletes across the country.”

He went on to expound that with this tournament igniting the start of the YBG Calender that this tournament will give schools the opportunity to get some competitive action. 

“Upcoming this weekend is our first tournament for the year. And what that does, it provides an opportunity for schools to sort of get a cobweb off.

So far we have 56 teams registered across five competition divisions on the 14th, 16th, 18th, girls and on the 21st. So there’s going to be a lot of games, a lot of new kids for the first time. I know that for sure, playing basketball.

And so, it’s really going to be an exciting weekend. We are just grateful for the opportunity that we’re able to do this once again this year “Bowman said 

Edward B. Beharry Marketing Projects and Brands Manager Malisa Jeffers also speaking indicated that they are delighted to support a program that develops the Youth and their commitment towards Young athletes development.

In 2024 Stephon George has been declared the top 3-point shooter and Tavishti Persaud has been declared the best free throw shooter while Kwakwani Seondary Boys U14,U18 and U21 shared top honours while Mackenzie Secondary  u16 followed up.
