On Monday, Demerara and Berbice won their second straight tournament victories in the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) Under-17 50-Over Inter-County competition.

The Berbice Under-17 team faced the GCB Select XI at the Georgetown Transport Cricket Ground. After winning the toss, Berbice chose to bat first. Leading the Select XI’s bowling attack with four wickets for 32 runs in 7.5 overs, Dennis Crossman was outstanding. Richard Ramdeholl and Gibran Yacoob both contributed with strong bowling performances, limiting the Berbice squad to 152 all out in 35.5 overs. Yacoob took 3 for 27.

Romario Ramdeholl’s run-a-ball 65, which featured five sixes and four fours, kept the innings together. Feaz Baksh took four wickets for the second consecutive game as the GCB Select XI batters struggled to produce runs in the second innings (4 for 20). With 17, Nathaniel Ramsammy, Arun Gainda, and Thierry Henry all had the highest scores. The game was lost by 32 runs after the Select XI was bowled for 125 in 44.1 overs.

The other match of the day took place at the LBI Ground, East Coast Demerara (ECD) and pitted Essequibo Under-17 against Demerara Under-17. Demerara won the toss and decided to bat first. All of the top-order batsmen for the Demerara team started, but none of them capitalized on the chance to score a sizable number of runs.

Emmanuel Lewis scored the most runs with 33 from 44 balls, including three fours, while Shamar Apple scored 28 from 27 with five fours. Danesh Persaud and Parmeshwar Ram, who both struck 27, helped Demerara to 172 all out in 46.2 overs. Darwin Joseph and Jathniel Nurse each grabbed three wickets to restrict the batting side.

Essequibo’s reply got off to a poor start when Ram removed Darrius Pearson in the opening over. Over the course of the innings, wickets kept falling. The score was 82 for 7 after captain Nicholas Lovell removed him after a patient innings of 24 from 46 balls.

The game was made intriguing by a 51-run 10th-wicket partnership between Darwin Joseph (21) and Eliha Ramdat (43) but Demerara maintained composure and got the last wicket, dismissing Essequibo for 158 all out.  Ram scored 3 for 21 in 6 overs, while Mohabir scored 3 for 27 in 10 overs.

Where will the competition resume on Wednesday, April 2, 2025?  The GCB Select XI will play Essequibo at Transport, while Demerara 6 will play Berbice at LBI.
