The Guyana Football Federation Elite League Season Seven got off to a flyer on Sunday at the National Training Centre as Slingerz Football Club and Ann’s Grove United ignited their season with contrasting wins.
Ann’s Grove United with whom was in the Penultimate position in Season Six as they look to gain form shared the court sharing the field with Mainstay Gold Star making their debut in the league.
As in the first half showcasing completive play but it was Ann’s Grove Outfit who lead the game at half time as strikes from Yohance Francis in the 28’ and Jamal Thursday in the 40’.
Ann’s Grove continued their dominance in the second quarter as Steve Francis would find the back of the net in the 47’ as they looked on the path to secure their first win of the season.
Mainstay’s Robeno Kanhai would then give his team a bit of hope as he scored a stunner in the 57’ as minutes later a 76’ minute goal from Quincy Barry and 90+3’ goal from Kemron Pelew sealed three points for Ann’s Grove Football Club.
Slinger Football Club looking to gain championship status this season falling short by two points and being undefeated contested against Modderlust Football Club as they looked to continue making impacts as they had bagged four wins in the previous season.
The First Half of the action saw no short of sheer dominance from Slingerz Football Club as Jamaican Forward Kemar Beckford would give his team a 2-goal advantage as he scored in the 39’ and 44’.
Defender Jeremy in the second half would put his team 3 goals up as he netted a goal in the 77’ as Slingerz smoothly looked to bag three points but however a goal in the 60’ from Dawit Watts inspired some hope for Modderlust.
A banger from Beckford in 77’ would seal the deal and complete his hat- trick as they secured three points as the score read 4-1 over Modderlust.
The Elite League would continue at the same venue on March 15th at the same venue as Ten Teams battle for supremacy.
