A 96-run first-wicket partnership, not broken until the 28th over, marked the turning point for Guyana’s National Under-15 Boys’ cricket team on Tuesday as they went on to secure a six-wicket victory in the opening round of the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars U15 tournament.

At the Sir Viv Richards Stadium, Trinidad and Tobago’s Jordan Julien and Davis Guerra formed a potent opening partnership to frustrate the Guyanese when they were sent in to bat first.  But Nathaniel Ramsammy took out Julien in his subsequent over for 53 off 99 balls after dismissing Guerra for 32 off 78.  The Trinidadians went from 96 without a loss to 99-4 when Ramsammy’s double was interrupted by Brandon Henry rattling Kaiden Pollard’s stumps and then hitting him again.

 When the Trinidadians were ultimately thrashed for 168 in 48.5 overs, Samuel Stuart’s bat produced the next-best score of 14.

Patrice Fraser, Rafell McKenzie, Reyaz Latif, Henry, and Ramsammy each took two wickets.

 Richard Ramdehol of Guyana performed a captain’s knock when he came in to bat at 48-3, scoring 64 in 88 balls to over the finish line.  Vice Captain Henry, who hit 39 in 49 balls, was beside him.

 Earlier, with scores of 31 and 21, respectively, Justin Dowlin and Lomar Seecharan gave Guyana a strong start.

 Ethan Ramcharan was the top bowler for Trinidad on the day, taking 2-36 in seven overs as Guyana reached their goal in 41.5 overs. be today when they take on Jamaica at the Antigua Recreation Ground from 09:30h local time.
