Back Circle retained its Rock Auto Trans Futsal title and won a $1 million grand prize in an exciting comeback triumph in front of a large crowd of captivated spectators at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH), Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown, early on Sunday morning.
Back Circle rallied to win 4-2 and the title after falling behind by a goal in the opening minute of the grand event.
Shemar Koulen’s goal in the first five seconds of the match gave the holders a bad start in front of a sizable crowd.
Stephon Reynolds’ goal in the seventeenth minute gave Back Circle the opportunity to even the playing field. At the start of the half, the score was still the same.
After the game resumed, Back Circle took the lead when Darren Benjamin scored in the 33rd minute. The lead, though, was short-lived as Dexroy Adams of Gold is Money equalized in the 35th minute.
Reynolds finished his brace in the 37th minute to make it 3-2, giving Back Circle a one-goal lead again. Simeon Moore’s goal in the 39th minute then sealed the victory.
Coach Selwyn Williams has succeeded in becoming the first person to win the inaugural championship both as a player and as a coach.
As a consequence, Gold is Money took home $500,000 and the associated award, while Back Circle took home $1,000,000 and the championship trophy.
In the third-place play-off, Festival City defeated North East La Penitence 4-3 on penalty kicks after regulation and extra time ended 3-3.
With the outcome, Festival City walked away with $300,000 and the respective trophy, while their opponents pocketed $200,000 and the corresponding accolade.
