The Junior Lady Jaguars, Guyana’s Women’s Under-20 National Football team, were officially drawn on Wednesday and placed in Group A of the CONCACAF Women’s U20 Championships.

This competition will be the official CONCACAF Region qualifier for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. It will take place at Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium in Alajuela, Costa Rica, from May 29 to June 8, 2025.

Guyana, the United States, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico were selected for Group A, while Mexico, Canada, Panama, and Nicaragua were selected for Group B.

Two groups of four teams each will compete in the group stage of the eight-team championships. The winners and runners-up, who total four teams, will then go to the semi-finals and earn a spot in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland the following year.

A champion will then be declared when the semifinal winners proceed to the final.

After winning Group A in the U20 Championship Qualifiers in February (together with Haiti, Belize, and Antigua & Barbuda) with seven points from two victories and a draw, Guyana advanced to the CONCACAF U20 Championships.

In their final, pivotal match of the Qualifiers, Guyana defeated Haiti 1-0, securing their third championship in a dramatic fashion.  Haiti was the team that eliminated Guyana from contention in both of the Championship’s editions (2020 and 2022), first by a 3-0 score in the 2020 quarterfinals and then by a 2-1 score in the 2022 knockout round.

On Friday, May 30, Guyana will take on the formidable USA to start their campaign in the 2025 U20 Women’s Championships.  Later, on Sunday, June 1, they will fight Puerto Rico, and on Tuesday, June 3, they will fight Costa Rica.

The semi-finals of the competition are set for Friday, June 6, and the final is expected to take place on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
