As the seventh Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League progressed over the weekend, three teams emerged victorious: the Guyana Police Force (GPF) FC, the reigning champion Guyana Defence Force (GDF) FC, and Santos Football Club.
The League traveled to the Ancient County of Berbice on Saturday afternoon, and the first team to experience success was Guyana Cultural Tours Police FC, who faced hosts Monedderlust FC at the No 5 Ground. Police won 4-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Neron Barrow in the 45th, 59th, and 78th minutes after Nicholas McArthur broke the ice between the two teams in the 22nd minute.
Then, in the first of a doubleheader on Sunday, Santos FC defeated Lake Mainstay Goldstar 3-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Ravi Coates. Coates allowed Santos to break through Lake Mainstay’s defenses in the 19th, 36th, and 49th minutes, despite the fact that they looked more fearsome than they had been a month earlier when they had their first taste of the League.
Defending champions GDF FC recovered from a close loss in their last match in the second game of the day. 2-0, GDF defeated Fruta Conquerors FC.
Amos Ramsay struck first for the soldiers just on the brink of half- time and Abumuchi Opara was the other marksmen in that affair, finding the back of the net in the 84th minute.
Currently being led by Slingerz FC with a perfect 12 points from four games played, the Elite League is set to continue next weekend.
