With a week to go before race day, preparations have almost been complete for the much-anticipated Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) Phagwah one day horse race meet.
The meet which is slated for next Sunday, March 16, at the club’s Bush Lot Farm Corentyne, Berbice venue has attracted a number of sponsors.
The Kennard Memorial Turf Club is in excellent shape and ready for action.
Among the sponsors on board are Metro Company Limited, The Trophy Stall, Torginol Paints Guyana Limited, Mike Pharmacy, Mrs. Chand Kennard and Family, Blue Seenarine and Surendra Ganesh among others.
The KMTC is one of the premiere horseracing venues in the country and is synonymous with staging top of the line events. Sunday’s meet is expected to be one such occasion.
Over 50 entries have been received so far and a number of other horses are expected to enter before the closing date.
The six-race event has a whopping $6M and change available in cash, trophies and other prizes for outstanding performers and a riveting day of races is anticipated.
The Metro Company will take charge of the feature C1 and lower event where the winner will gallop away with the sumptuous $1.2M and trophy. That event is expected to be a mouthwatering affair with the inform Beckham James among the horses slated to go for the gold in the 7 furlongs gallop.
Another top-notch event is the race for horses classified F and lower. The winner’s take is an encouraging $400,000 and trophy over seven furlongs.
The showdown for horses classified H and lower will see the winner racing away with the $350,000 and a trophy also over seven furlongs.
A good contest is anticipated in the event for three-year-old Guyana Bred animals over 6 furlongs. The top prize is $300,000 and trophy.
The other two races also have the pole position takings at $300,000 and trophy over six furlongs.
A large field is expected to enter in the event for J and lower horses, while a number of entries have already been received for the L-class open race.
The KMTC is in excellent shape and a bumper crowd is expected to swarm the venue and be a part of the day of exciting horseracing.
Rewards will be available for the outstanding individual performers, including top jockey, top trainer and top stable compliments of the Trophy Stall.
