The boys’ under-20 1500m went to Timothy Smith of Harmony Secondary at the National Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships.
Smith won in 4:23.87s, followed by Jonathan Bristol (4:32.93s) of Richard Ishmael and Samuel Booker (4:36.58s) of Leonora Technical Institute.
Rodel Greene of Linden Technical Institute won the boys’ under-20 triple jump with a best leap of 14.69m at the inaugural National Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships.
The other two podium spots went to Duel Europe (14.20m) of West Demerara Secondary and Michael Kyte (13.38m) of Berbice High School.
It is the second gold medal for Ebo McNeil of Mackenzie High School as he convincingly won the boys’ under-17 1500m at the inaugural National Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships.
In the 1500m, he clocked 4:23.90s followed by Shaquan Shepherd (4:42.68s) of Christ Church Secondary and Corey Speede (4:44.52s) of Camile’s Academy.
Though diminutive, Akroy DeSantos of Zeeburg Secondary stood tall against his opponent as he ran a tactically sound race to win the boys’ under-15 1500m at the inaugural National Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships.
DeSantos clocked 4:50.76s followed by Rashad Changlee (4:55.11s) of St. Ignatius Secondary and Neilson Gordon (5:02.84s) of St. Nicholas.
Latifa James of Christianburg Wismar Secondary had a best throw of 27.80m to win the girls’ under-20 shot put event at the inaugural National Secondary Schools Track and Field Championships.
Obenna Hinds (24.08m) of President’s College and Beyonce Chandler (23.92m) of Government Technical Institute rounded out the podium spots.(MOE)
